Nordictrack FS10i Freestrider – A Good Buy for You?

Nordictrack Freestrider EllipticalThe Nordictrack FS10i Freestride Trainer is a new premium Freestrider model this year – replacing the older FS9i model.

Freestride elllipticals are a completely new type of elliptical trainer.

Instead of running in a fixed stride – like most elliptical trainers – you can vary your stride length and shape on these trainers.

This is amazing for crosstraining. And it gives you more ways to work your lower body than a standard elliptical.

The FS10i Freestrider also comes with an extra-large, full-color console.

You can stream iFit workout classes through this – or travel world famous trails from your living room!

Nordictrack FS10i vs FS14i Freestride Trainer Comparison

Nordictrack FS10i Freestride Trainer – Key Benefits:

Get Interactive Training At Home

The FS10i comes a large 10-inch screen in the console. It’s full-color, HD and touch-screen friendly.

You can connect to iFit from the screen and stream daily workout classes. The class instructor will even auto-adjust your elliptical incline and resistance in real time for a more interactive training class experience.

You can also run trails all over the world and watch landmarks pass you by in the screen for some virtual reality-style fun (more on iFit below).

The screen also tilts so you can find the best viewing angle for you. And there is a built-in dual-speed fan to keep you cool.

Find Your Perfect Stride Length

With a regular elliptical trainer, you’re locked into a fixed stride length (so you have to fit your natural running gait into that stride).

But with the FS10i elliptical, you can choose your most comfortable stride and even get strides of up to 32 inches long. This opens up a ton of possibilities as the machine adjusts to your natural stride – and not the other way around.

This makes for a more ergonomically correct and comfortable workout with less strain on your hips, knees and back.

Because you set the stride, you can use this elliptical as a step machine with short up and down strides, an elliptical with jogging natural stride – or even a treadmill with running/sprinting extra long strides.

This means you get a more comprehensive workout and burn more calories overall as your leg muscles are always being challenged.

Travel World-Famous Trails with iFit Coach

With iFit Coach you can run trails all over the world – from the Swiss Alps to the Grand Canyon – and watch real life landmarks pass you by in the console screen.

You can also follow famous personal trainers as they lead you through workouts from the shores of Hawaii to the temples of Thailand

Can’t get to the gym?

No problem.

Stream a workout class directly from your console. These aren’t just elliptical workouts. You get everything from yoga to stretching to HIIT Training workouts.

There are thousands of workouts to choose from – and they’re always adding more.

You can even take a live class in real time from the comfort of your home.

Get Enhanced Crosstraining with Incline

Incline changes the slope of your running path and can help add some crosstraining to your workout. The FS10i gives you power inclines from 0 to 10 degrees.

You can adjust the incline yourself with the buttons on the console. The incline will also auto-adjust to match the iFit world trail that you’re running for a more virtual reality training feel.

Low Impact Workout

Unlike a traditional elliptical trainer, the footpedals on the FS10i Freestrider ride on belts, rather than the traditional rails attached to the crank. This gives you more of a feeling of “running on air” and is smooth with nearly zero impact.

This design is great if you are prone to muscle injury or shin splints.

Nordictrack FS10i Freestride Trainer – Any Drawbacks?

iFit Subscription

There are 2 versions of iFit – a free version with a few built-in workouts – or the full monthly subscription version.

To get all of the benefits of iFit including the live iFit classes and thousands of world trail workouts, you’ll need the full paid monthly subscription.

You don’t need the full subscription version to use this machine – it works fine without the paid version. But it’s something to know if you’re planning to take the online classes.

No Handrail Controls

This Freestrider model doesn’t come with handrail controls – you have to change the incline and resistance from the  buttons on the console. It’s not a deal breaker. But it’s something you do get on the FS14i model.

Bottom Line?

If you’re looking for an upgrade on the traditional elliptical – one that lets you set your own pace and stride – then the FS10i is a great option.  You’ll never “adapt” to one motion and can constantly challenge your body (and burn more calories) with this machine.

Plus you can take a new workout class every day of the week or explore famous world trails with interactive personal training from your home.

With thousands of workouts and world trail rides to choose from, you’ll never run out of new things to do. And the larger screen on this trainer gives you a more enjoyable, immersive experience!
