One of the most common questions I get about the Nordictrack Freestride Trainer is about ceiling height:
“What ceiling height do I need for the Nordictrack Freestride Trainer?” or
“I have an 8 foot ceiling and my husband is 6 feet tall – is that high enough to fit the FS10i Freestrider?”
That’s a very good question.
And one I’ve taken to Nordictrack several times to clarify. I’ve listed what I’ve been told below to help you figure it out for your specific situation.
Note however that I do not work for Nordictrack.
So if you’re going to buy a Nordictrack elliptical or Freestrider anywhere, be sure that you know all the details on the machine you’re buying from the official Manufacturer’s site here.
Question: How Much Ceiling Height Do I Need for the Freestride Trainer?
This really depends on 2 things that you need to know: your own ceiling height and the height of the tallest user who is in your home who will be using the machine.
Because ceiling heights and user heights vary across the board I’ll give you what I know so you can then take it and apply to your personal situation.
This is straight from the manufacturer’s mouth:
“The footprint of the FS7i is 68.4″ L X 28.5″ W X 62″ H and the pedals are about 12″ from the ground.”
So that’s 1 foot off the ground. So if you have a 7 foot ceiling you’ll definitely need to be under 6 feet to be comfortable and not bump up against the ceiling.
An Even BETTER Answer On Freestride Trainer Ceiling Height:
This is the better answer I got on another occasion however. From another helpful person that I spoke to at Nordictrack:
“You will need 15 inches above the height of the tallest user.”
So when converted to feet that is about 1.25 feet.
That’s much easier to work with right?
So for example if your tallest user is 6 feet than you need a ceiling height of 6 + 1.25 feet = 7.25 feet. So a 7 foot ceiling height will not work for you. But an 8 or 9 foot ceiling would be fine.
Let’s say your tallest user is 5 foot 5 inches. So converting the 5 inches to feet is 0.42 feet.
So then you’ll need 5.42 + 1.25 = 6.67 feet of ceiling height. So in theory, you could get away with a 7 foot ceiling. Of course you’d be swimming in headspace with an 8 or 9 foot ceiling.
Basically here’s the formula:
Take the height of the tallest user in your home (in feet) and add 1.25 feet. That gives you the minimum ceiling height (in feet) you need to comfortably use this elliptical.
So I hope that clears things up on the issue of the Freestride trainer and ceiling height.
