Nordictrack elliptical trainers have some really unique benefits to them – which is part of what makes them so popular.

Nordictrack is owned by ICON Health and Fitness – one of the largest fitness equipment manufacturers in the world.

What does that mean for you?

Well, it means that ICON has the money, resources and engineers to design a better elliptical for less.

And since Nordictrack is seen as their higher-end brand (they also own other brands like Proform and Healthrider), that means Nordictrack tends to get the best workout “tech” first.

Without further ado, here are some of the very best Nordictrack elliptical benefits that you’ll find on their crosstrainers this year:

Nordictrack Console

Nordictrack Elliptical Benefits – #1 Full-Color, HD Console

Many (not all) of the Nordictrack elliptical trainers come with full-color, touch-screen HD consoles as you can see above and below.

Considering that many other brands – even higher end brands – only give you dual color consoles (and no touch-screens), this is pretty cool.

Plus with these consoles you can also watch iFit world scenery and livestream workouts in large, living color (more on iFit below).

This alone can make your workouts a lot more fun and enjoyable!

Nordictrack Elliptical Benefits #2 iFit

Pretty much every current Nordictrack elliptical trainer is compatible with iFit Coach. iFit Coach is really the next level of at-home fitness training.

It connects your elliptical trainer to the Internet. From there you can track your workouts over time and set new goals. You can even use iFit to track your eating, daily activity and sleep patterns.

You can also run pretty much anywhere in the world with iFit – from Paris to the shores of Hawaii – and watch as real landmarks pass you by in the console screen.

You can also get guided workouts – from HIIT Training in the Swiss Alps to walking tours of Florence. Very cool.

Can’t get to the gym?

No problem – take a livestream fitness class right from your console.

In fact, there are over 12,000 HD workout videos to choose from in the iFit library. You’ll basically never run out of things to do with this feature!

The trainer can even control your resistance or incline for you to match the class (you can override this if you wish). So you can have a truly hands-off training experience.

While you are starting to get iFit Coach on a few other ICON brands like Proform now, it’s still nice to know that you can get iFit with almost every new Nordictrack elliptical on the market.

Benefit #3: Freestride Trainers

Nordictrack has a unique type of ellipticla trainer – the Freestride Trainer. Freestride elliptical trainers are center-drive ellipticals.

Instead of 1 large flywheel in front or in back of the pedals, you have 2 smaller flywheels on either side of the pedals.

This has a few benefits. First, it places you more upright on the pedals – which can feel more comfortable for many people as there’s less leaning over on the arm bars.

Secondly it also tends to place the pedals closer together – which means less strain on the hips.

The other benefit to the Freestride trainers?

A completely adjustable, adaptable stride. Instead of one set stride length (as you have with most standard crosstrainers) you get an adaptable stride. You can basically choose the stride length that feels right for you on this machine:

Benefit #4 Folding Elliptical Trainers

While it’s easy to find a treadmill that folds up – a good quality folding elliptical is hard to find. You can find some cheap flimsy ones but they tend to break down after 90 days (right around the time the warranty runs out).

Nordictrack addressed this problem and came out with 2 different folding ellipticals a few years ago – the SE7i and the SE9i (which has a few more premium features).

They both fold up easily and have rollers on the bottom so you can easily move them out of the room. You can even fold them up and store them in a closet.

While not everyone needs a folding elliptical, if you’re short on space (or your workout area also doubles as your office), having a sturdy, well-built folding elliptical trainer may be just what you’re looking for.
