Nordictrack 14.9 Elliptical Review – The Benefits:
Extra Large HD Console
While this used to be a 10-inch screen, Nordictrack upgraded the 14.9 model this year to a larger, 14-inch touch-screen console. This larger screen makes it easier to read your workouts stats. It also makes watching the virtual iFit workouts a lot more enjoyable.
You can enjoy running trails all over the world with iFit – or even take a new daily fitness class workout right from your console (more on iFit below). You can also check your workout stats with a swipe of your finger.
The console also comes with a port for your iPhone and built-in console speakers. And there’s a dual-speed console fan to keep you cool during those extra-long workouts.
Large 32-Pound Flywheel
A heavier flywheel gives you a smoother feeling ride without a lot of jerky stops and starts you often get with cheaper ellipticals.
The Nordictrack Commercial 14.9 elliptical comes with a very heavy flywheel: 32 pounds (vs some of their starter models which come in around 20 pounds). This helps to anchor it, gives you really smooth transitions and much higher stability than cheaper machines.
This is great if you’re planning on heavier or longer workouts as the machine can easily take the extra use and abuse
Incline For Improved Crosstraining
Incline (or ramp) changes the slope of the elliptical path, using different groups of lower body muscles. It works kind of like incline on a treadmill. A lot of people like it because it can give you a more effective (and higher calorie-burning) workout.
The Commercial 14.9 elliptical comes with a 0 to 20 degree incline ramp. So you can challenge yourself and crosstrain different muscle groups with this option.

Travel the World with iFit
This trainer works hand-in-hand with iFit Coach. iFit connects your crosstrainer to the internet through the console.
With iFit you can do so many amazing things. For example, you can run trails all over the world – from Australia to Paris. You’ll see actual landmarks pass you by in the console screen as you run – for a virtual reality feel.

You can also follow different personal trainers as they take you on workouts all over the world – from Santorini to the Swiss Alps. These workouts are a fantastic way to stay motivated and to push yourself further.
You can also use iFit to track your workouts over time and set new fitness goals. Or stream a daily fitness class to your machine for new challenges.
And the best part?
If you get the Nordictrack 14.9 elliptical through the Manufacturer, you can get a limited time Full Family Membership to iFit Coach included. So you can try out iFit first to see if you like it. (There’s also a free version of iFit you can use with this trainer if you don’t want the full subscription version).

Adjustable Pedals
This is a great feature that can make your workouts more customized (and comfortable). Choose from 3 different toe-heel angles on the footpedals and find one that feels most comfortable for you.
Audio Port with Speakers
Plug in your phone or other device and play your favorite workout music through the built-in speakers for even more workout fun. It’s Bluetooth compatible so you can easily pair your phone or device.
Nordictrack Commercial 14.9 Elliptical – Any Drawbacks?
Not Really An “Adjustable Stride”
Nordictrack advertises this as an adjustable stride. That’s a bit misleading. You can’t actually adjust or set the stride for your workout as you can with some of their other models.
The stride length changes as you change the incline and footpedal settings – which isn’t really what most people think of when they think of an “adjustable stride”.
iFit Subscription
There are 2 versions of iFit – a free version with a few built-in workouts – or the full monthly subscription version.
To get all of the benefits of iFit including the live iFit classes and thousands of world trail workouts, you’ll need the full paid monthly subscription.
You don’t need the full subscription version to use this machine. But it’s something to know if you want to take the online classes.
Bottom Line?
If you’re looking for a premium, front-drive elliptical with all of the bells and whistles, the Nordictrack 14.9 elliptical is worth considering. It has one of the heaviest flywheels Nordictrack makes for a smoother, more stable ride.
The adjustable pedals and power incline can help you find the most comfortable elliptical feel for you. Plus it also carries the largest full-color console you can find on an elliptical – which takes the world-training workouts on iFit up to the next level.
