Trying to decide between the Nordictrack 9.9 vs 14.9 Elliptical?
These are two of Nordictrack’s most popular front drive trainers. (Many people prefer front drive trainers since they take up less space than rear-drive ellipticals.)

The Nordictrack Commercial 14.9 elliptical has been around for a few years now – with upgrades along the way.
The Nordictrack 9.9 is a newer model – replacing the older 9.5 elliptical model – that was released about a year ago.
Both trainers give you full-color, HD touch-screens with iFit world training and personal coaching. They also both give you up to 20% incline to add extra challenge to your workout.

So what’s the difference between the Nordictrack 9.9 vs 14.9 elliptical? How do they stack up?
And which is best for you?
Here’s a comparison of the main differences between these two machines so you can find the best fit for you.

Nordictrack 9.9 vs 14.9: Price
When it comes to price, the Nordictrack 9.9 trainer has the edge here. You can get it direct from the Manufacturer at around $1299 with Free Shipping here.
The Nordictrack Commercial 14.9 is the premium model in the series – with a few more perks. You can get it for around $1799 with Free Shipping here.
So is it worth the extra for the Nordictrack 14.9 elliptical? Let’s look a bit deeper.
Nordictrack Commercial 14.9 vs 9.9: Console
Both trainers give you full-color, HD, touch-screen consoles. You can stream iFit world trail runs or even take a fitness class from the console with these trainers.
The difference? Size.
The Nordictrack 9.9 elliptical gives you a 7-inch screen seen here:
And the Nordictrack 14.9 elliptical gives you a much larger 14-inch screen seen here:

Having a screen that’s double the size on the 14.9 elliptical can really make a big difference in the enjoyment of your workout. The larger screen can really pull you into the action for a more immersive workout.
Note that both screens tilt for a better viewing angle and both consoles have dual-speed fans to keep you cool.

Nordictrack 9.9 vs 14.9: Flywheel
A heavier elliptical flywheel helps to give you a smoother-feeling ride, especially between resistance transitions. A heavier flywheel can also help anchor the machine for a more stable feeling ride – even when you pick up your pace.
The Nordictrack 9.9 elliptical comes with a respectable 25-pound flywheel – which is great for a starter machine.
However the Nordictrack 14.9 elliptical comes with a heavier 32-pound flywheel. So it’s going to feel a bit smoother and more stable than the 9.9 elliptical.
This also makes it a better choice for multiple-user families where the machine will get more wear and tear.
Nordictrack 9.9 or 14.9 – Resistance
You get 22 resistance levels on the Nordictrack 9.9 elliptical – which is pretty good. The Nordictrack Commercial 14.9 elliptical gives you a bit more – 26 resistance levels.
So you have a bit more room to grow on the Commercial 14.9 elliptical as your fitness level improves over time.
Nordictrack 14.9 vs 9.9: Heart Rate
This is interesting. The Nordictrack 9.9 elliptical still comes with the EKG hand grip heart rate sensors on the stationary arm bars.
The Nordictrack 14.9 does not have them (it will still work with a wireless monitor however).
Nordictrack has been removing the EKG hand grip sensors on a lot of their new machines and they will probably eventually do it on the Nordictrack 9.9 as well.
But for right now, it’s included on the 9.9 – but not on the 14.9 model.
Bottom Line?
So what’s the bottom line when comparing the Nordictrack 9.9 vs 14.9 elliptical trainers?
Well, they both give you iFit streaming workouts on touch-screen, full-color consoles. You can also improve your crosstraining with up to 20 degrees of incline.
The Nordictrack 9.9 is the more affordable of the two ellipticals, making it great if you’re on a budget.
The Nordictrack 14.9 gives you a few more luxury touches – like the larger console screen, more resistance levels and a heavier flywheel for improved stability. With the heavier flywheel it will feel a bit more stable and solid, especially if you plan on long, intense workouts.
So it really depends on what you want.
