Nordictrack 9.9 Elliptical Review – The Benefits:
Full-Color HD Touch-Screen Console
The Nordictrack Commercial 9.9 elliptical comes with a 7-inch, full-color, HD touch-screen console. You can see your workout stats in full color with a swipe of your finger.
Or connect with iFit online and take a workout class from the comfort of your own home.
With iFit you can also explore famous trails all over the world. You’ll see real landmarks pass you by in the console screen as you run (more on iFit below). This feature alone is something you usually don’t find on other elliptical brands at this price point.
Another nice touch is the dual-speed fan in the console – a great way to stay cool during those extra-long workouts!
25-Pound Flywheed for Added Stability
A heavier flywheel gives you a smoother feeling ride without the jerky stop-and-start motions you often get with cheaper ellipticals.
While it’s not the heaviest flywheel that Nordictrack makes, the 25-pound flywheel on the Nordictrack 9.9 elliptical is still quite good for this price point. It will also help to anchor the machine for higher stability.
Explore the World with iFit Coach
The Nordictrack 9.9 also comes with the option to connect to iFit Coach (Nordictrack’s online streaming service) through the console with a touch of a button.
From there you can do all sorts of fun things.
Take an interactive studio fitness class right from home. There are thousands to choose from – focusing on everything from strength training to cardio to fat-burning.
The class instructor will guide you through the workout and even control the trainer for you when the pace changes (you can also override this feature if you choose).
You can also explore the world with thousands of world trail runs or walks.
Explore the temples of Thailand, run along the shores or Hawaii or even take a walking tour through Florence Italy. You’ll see the landmarks pass you by in the console screen as you go – for a more virtual-reality type of experience.
Plus, iFit can track your workout stats automatically for you. You can set new fitness goals or just see how far you’ve come for some workout motivation. This can take your training to a whole new level!
While iFit Coach is usually an extra monthly fee, if you get the Nordictrack 9.9 elliptical with the link below, you can get a Full Family membership to iFit included for a limited time.
So you can try it out first to see if you like it! (There’s also a free version of iFit you can use if you don’t want the full subscription.
Add Extra Challenge with 20% Incline
Incline changes the slope of your elliptical running path and helps to work different lower body muscle groups. This is great for crosstraining and adding extra challenge to your workouts.
You get from 0 to 20 degree incline with this elliptical. It’s power incline – so you can change it from the console without having to get off the machine.
Enhance your workout comfort with the adjustable footpedals on this model. there are 3 different toe-heel angles to choose from so everyone can find the right fit for them.
Also, note that when you adjust the incline, you will also automatically adjust the stride length (between 18 and 20 inches). This is another way you can increase your workout comfort by finding the most comfortable stride length for you.
A nice touch on the Nordictrack Commercial 9.9 crosstrainer is the curved moving arm bars. (These aren’t found on all Nordictrack ellipticals).
They give you multiple positions to place your hands when working your upper body. So again, you can find the best fit for your body.
There are also stationary handlebars as well (for when you want to rest your arms.). These also come with an EKG heart rate grip so you can also monitor your heart rate as you run.
Nordictrack Commercial 9.9 Review – Any Drawbacks?
Not Really an “Adjustable Stride”
Nordictrack advertises the 9.9 elliptical as having an adjustable stride from 17-18 inches. But that’s a little misleading. The stride changes as you change the incline – you can’t just set it and go as you might expect.
As stated above this trainer is a bit simpler (but more affordable) than Nordictrack’s other models. The screen is smaller and you don’t get as many resistance levels as higher end models.
If you’re looking for an affordable elliptical with a several fun extras you don’t usually find at this price point, you’ll love the new Nordictrack 9.9 elliptical.
Stream workouts to your home through the HD console or run all over the world and explore famous sites with iFit. The power incline can help to enhance you lower body training.
Plus you have several options that can make your workouts more comfortable – like the adjustable stride and footpedals, multi-position handlebars and dual-speed console fan.
Overall it lacks some of the polish of the higher-end Nordictrack models. But for the price point, it gives you great value.
