One of the biggest questions I get about the Freestride elliptical is “What is the ceiling height needed for the Nordictrack Freestrider?”

For some reason people see this machine as somehow built higher than a standard elliptical trainer (I never get questions about ceiling heights on regular ellipticals).

So to answer your question I went straight to the Nordictrack Manufacturer.

This is a direct quote:

“The footprint of the Freestride elliptical is 68.4″ L X 28.5″ W X 62″ H and the pedals are about 12 inches from the ground.”

So since 12 inches is 1 foot,  if you have an average 8 foot ceiling height, unless you’re 6′ 4 inches to 7 feet, you should be ok (I’m giving about half a foot or so for the movement up and down).

If you’re around 6 foot 2 with an 8 foot ceiling, you might feel like you’re cutting it close (but that’s being very conservative and giving you a lot of extra height at the top).

If you have a 9 foot ceiling you should be fine no matter if you’re 6 feet or above with lots of room.

Some people have asked me about a 7 foot ceiling  and if you’re pushing 6 feet or higher, then that might be a problem – for the Freestride elliptical or any elliptical for that matter. If that’s the case, you may want to go with something else like a recumbent bike or a rowing machine.

Ultimately it’s up to you to decide what you’re comfortable with. Want to learn more or compare all Freestrider models?
